Domus Civita

Christmas Presepe

Christmas is a wonderful time to be in Italy. Aside from the rich culinary traditions that provide any tourist with the quintessential Italian food experience, cities and towns all across the boot  celebrate their catholic roots with Nativities of various forms and shapes  also called Presepe.  Civita has its own tradition of a live Nativity which occurs usually on a six day stretch between Christmas and the New Year’s Eve. The town transforms itself into a little Bethlehem complete with all sorts of people pretending to live in Roman times and keeping busy with all kind of activities like selling bread and fruit on the streets, tanning leather, spinning wool, cooking and baking, basket weaving and more.   Street level Cantinas, stables and old wood cellars open up for the occasion to host beautiful human vignettes  including of course the birth of Jesus!  For the Holiday visitor this is quite a folk feast that is as charming and unique and one more reason to book Domus Civita for the Holidays!
